At the same time, it opens handful of possibilities that is virtually not finite of interaction and collaboration. This also creates opportunities for the execution of different types of crime. The computational forensics field is concerned on collecting, extracting, preserving and analyzing digital evidence in a way to support investigative and audit procedures. The challenges are big, including diverse technological, legal and social barriers that need to be translated into the necessity to train qualified professionals to work in the field.

The VI Computational Forensics Workshop (WFC) aims to be a forum for discussion and technical presentations among the state of the art in technologies related to computational forensics. Beyond that, the search to identify research challenges is sought in order to allow for the integration of researchers and professionals of the field.

Topics of Interest

Authors are invited to submit original works related to computational forensics. The topics of interest include (but not limited to):

Campaign analysis of Persistent and Advanced Attacks

Malware analysis of type “bolware” (boleto)

Malware analysis for Point of Sale (POS)

Traffic analysis, tracking and attack attribution

Forensics analysis of virtualized environments (virtual machines and cloud computing)

Storage forensics analysis

Database forensics analysis

Embedded and mobile devices forensics analysis

IoT (IP cameras, smart TVs, video games) forensics analysis

Memory forensics analysis

Multimedia forensics analysis

Networks and distributed systems forensics analysis

ICS/SCADA systems forensics analysis

Storage and digital evidence preservation

Legal aspects of digital evidence

Big data in forensics, including gathering, mining and data visualization

Cyber crime

Development and testing of forensics tools

Pornography and child pornography detection

Case study and tendency analysis

Computational tools for monitoring and crime detection

Personnel communication and social networks analysis tools

Large scale investigation

Malware: forensics analysis and attribution

Methods and tools for events reconstruction

Occultation and data uncovering (steganography and steganalysis)

Data recovery and reconstruction

Incident response and real-time analysis

Anti-forensics techniques and anti-anti-forensics

Instructions for the authors

The WFC will include presentation of the accepted papers, invited talks and forensics challenge. Paper will be submitted in two categories:

Full Papers: A full paper should present a research work that has been developed to the point of producing original and relevant results that were validated and analyzed. The full paper should respect the maximum page limit of 10 pages.

Short Paper: A short paper can describe an ongoing research work or computational tools/practical experiments. A short paper should have between 4 to 6 pages. In the case of tools/experiments, the paper should contain the following information:

Description and motivation of the problem analyzed by the tool

Architecture of the solution and a description of its main functionalities

URL where the tool is available

URL of the documentation and description of the planned demonstration of the tool

The text should be formatted according to the SBC template, found here. The submission should be made via the JEMS system and via PDF files.

Works submitted to the WFC will be evaluated by a reviewers board and the selected works will be organized for presentation and publication at the proceedings of the event. At least one of the authors from each selected work should be registered at the SBSeg 2017 and present their work at event.

Each paper should be submitted in an anonymous manner, i.e., they should avoid any informations at the heading, text and references that link the paper to the authors and their institutions.

Copyrights

Together with the final version of the accepted works, a copyrights agreement should be sent to the SBC.
